Carolin Schmitz

Carolin Schmitz (* 1967 in Wiesbaden ) is a German director and screenwriter .

life and work

After graduating from high school, Carolin Schmitz trained as a bookseller. From 1997 to 2002 she studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Her documentary short film Benidorm about the Spanish holiday resort Benidorm received the German Short Film Award in Gold for Documentary Films in 2006. Schmitz has made two stylistically unusual documentaries for the cinema. Portraits of anonymous alcoholics shows the drinking habits of six anonymous alcoholics, their "successful portraits of drinkers in a way that has never been 'seen'" wrote the epd-film. In Beauty , Schmitz sobriety shows people who have had cosmetic surgery.

In 2003, Carolin Schmitz was a founding member of the documentary film women network LaDOC. She lives and works in Cologne.
