Carpelimus elongatulus , formerly Trogophloeus elongatulus , is a beetle from the family of the short-winged species (Staphylinidae).
features
The beetles reach a body length of 2.2 to 2.5 millimeters and have a black-brown body color with a slightly darker abdomen. The body of the animals is almost everywhere the same width. The pronotum has two elongated impressions. The wing covers hardly shine and are only slightly longer than the pronotum. The two wings are less long than together wide.
Occurrence and way of life
The species occurs in northern and central Europe and partly in southern Europe. The northern limit of distribution extends partly to the Arctic Circle . In southern Europe the species is known from Italy and the Balkans , in France it occurs only locally. You can find the animals on muddy banks in rotting plant material, in the litter, in leaves, moss and the like and also in meadows in damp places. They are very common and occur all year round, including January and February.
