Carsten Hallmann (born October 11, 1961 in Essen ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Carsten Hallmann started playing football in his hometown at ESG 99/06 Essen. In 1978 he moved to Rot-Weiss Essen and from 1980 was in the squad of the first team that played in the 2nd Bundesliga at the time. In his first season he played 14 games and became a regular goalkeeper no later than a year later, in the 1981/82 season. In 1984 Hallmann moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga after the first season, also as “number 1” . His best game in the FCS jersey was probably in the cup against Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart . 1. FC Saarbrücken, then still in the second division, reached the penalty shoot-out in the replay (in the first game they separated 0-0 after extra time) after a 2-2 in regular time, in which Hallmann saved two penalties. A penalty kick from Stuttgart missed the goal, so that VfB did not score in the penalty shoot-out and Saarbrücken reached the quarter-finals. The FCS was also able to successfully contest this (1-0 against Hannover 96 ). In the semi-finals, they were eliminated from eventual cup winners Bayer 05 Uerdingen . In 1985/86 the FCS was relegated directly from the Bundesliga. Hallmann had to undergo cruciate ligament surgery in August 1986 and could not play a game after that.

Today Hallmann lives in Essen again and runs seven tobacco, lottery and magazine shops.
