Carsten Polanz

Carsten Polanz (* 1982 in Mettmann ) is a German Islamic scholar and university professor.

Life

In 2003, Carsten Polanz began studying Islamic Studies , Modern History and Public Law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn, which he completed in 2009 with a master's degree. In parallel, he studied Protestant theology at Martin Bucer Seminary in Bonn. In 2010 his doctoral studies at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität followed. In 2015 he received his doctorate from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität with a dissertation on the jihad concept of Yusuf al-Qaradawi .

In 2016, the Free Theological University of Gießen appointed Polanz to an endowed professorship for Islam issues. His main research interests are: the image of God and man in the Bible and the Koran; Christian-Muslim encounters and controversies in the past and present; Sharia law and contemporary Islamic human rights and democracy discourses; Muslim worlds in western societies; Classic and modern concepts of jihad; Salafism and radicalization.

He has been involved as a staff member since 2004 and as a research assistant at the Institute for Islamic Issues of the Evangelical Alliance since 2016 , where he has been editor-in-chief of the bilingual magazine “Islam and Christian Faith” and a member of the board. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Christian Value Education, freelance work for the Bonner General-Anzeiger and has been giving regular lectures and training courses in church and political education since 2009.
