The Martin Bucer Seminar , based in Bonn, is a private theological seminar with an evangelical character in the evangelical reformed tradition. The seminar is named after the reformer Martin Bucer .

education

The Martin Bucer Seminar (MBS) was founded in 1996 as an “answer” to the theology at German universities , which is viewed as critical of the Bible and liberal . It offers extra-occupational, mission-oriented and practice-oriented theological training that is an alternative to studying theology at state universities .

The special educational feature of the seminar is that up to 20 students study in a study center and are introduced to the practice of church work on site. There are currently 15 such study centers worldwide, including a. in Berlin , Bielefeld , Bonn , Chemnitz , Hamburg , Munich , Pforzheim , Helsinki , São Paulo , Zurich , Prague , Istanbul , Izmir , Delhi and Tirana . There are courses to obtain a Bachelor of Theology and Master of Theology , which are awarded by Whitefield Theological Seminary (USA). The courses consist of seminars, research work and self-study materials. Research focuses on ethics , Islamic studies , mission and freedom of religion .

What is unique in the world of theological education is the connection of the curriculum with features of very different cultural frameworks for being a Christian. The study centers in growth-focused Brazil, in Turkey, where Christians are a minority, as well as in secularized German-speaking Western Europe and the Czech Republic are united in a global curriculum. Students can move from one study center to another, acquiring their studies at each of the study centers. Teaching is given by Christian professors and teachers from other continents, each with their own perspective on what is particularly challenging for Western theology.

The seminar had 350 students in 2017. There are also around 450 students who take online courses.

The sponsors are the Martin Bucer Seminar e. V. in Germany, the Martin Bucer Seminar Switzerland in Switzerland, the Partner Evangelical Educational Organization in Austria, the Martin Bucer Seminar Turkey, the Seminário Martin Bucer Brasil and the Komensky Institute in Prague, the Agricola Theological Institute in Helsinki and the Caleb Institute ( Delhi, India). The individual national associations have equal rights. All associations are closely related to the Evangelical Alliance in their countries.

The seminar is a member of the conservative World Reformed Fellowship and the Conference of Biblical Training Centers .
