Carsten Schmiester

Carsten Schmiester (born April 28, 1962 in Oldenburg ) is a German radio journalist.

Life

Carsten Schmiester graduated from the Hindenburg School (now Herbartgymnasium ) in Oldenburg in 1981 . After completing his military service, he volunteered for the Oldenburger Nordwest-Zeitung from 1982 to 1984 . In 1984 he was an editor at the Nordwest-Zeitung and studied social sciences, history and law at the Open University in Hagen .

In 1988 he switched to NDR radio, initially to the Oldenburg studio. In 1989 he went to Hamburg for NDR2 and worked there until 1999 as editor and presenter of the Kurier broadcasts. During this time he was acting as a radio correspondent in Singapore (1993), New Delhi (1996) and London (1998). From 1999 to 2003 he worked as a radio correspondent in the NDR / WDR studio in London. From 2003 to 2008 he was head of the radio studio in the NDR / WDR studio in Washington . From 2009 to 2015, Schmiester headed the current editorial department at NDR2 in Hamburg as head of the Current Program. Since April 2016 he has been working as an ARD radio correspondent for the Nordic countries and the Baltic States in Stockholm .

In 2013, he and Petra Sander won the German Radio Prize in the “Best News Show” category.
