Caryoscapha limbata is a beetle from the subfamily of the boat beetles (Scaphidiinae). The species is the only one of its kind in Europe.

features

The beetles reach a body length of 2.7 millimeters and have a black or brown-black body. The wing covers have light-colored pointed hems, the wing cover seam is not clearly raised like a roof. The seam strip is deep and curved inwards along the edge of the pronotum at the front . The latter is punctured difficult to recognize. The last limb of the palps is not extended outwards in front of the base, nor is it wider than the remaining limbs.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed in southern and central Europe, the Caucasus , Siberia , in large parts of Eastern Europe as well as in Italy and France.
