history

The palace, built in 1520 by the third constable of Castile Ruy López Dávalos on the site of the Condestables de Castilla in what is now the city center of Úbeda, was built in the style of a castle with two flanking towers, which gave the building the name Casa de las Torres . The patio is surrounded by double arcades. The upper gallery in the inner courtyard with its overlapping archivolts in Mudejar style frames the colonnade with a fountain in the inner courtyard and illustrates the jurisdiction of the Dávalos dynasty at that time . The members of the Dávalos family were the administrators of the region at the time, serving the kings of Castile.

In 1917 Casa de Dávalos was placed under monument protection and registered as Monumento Bien de Interés Cultural . In 1934 the city council bought the building. After renovation work, the School of Crafts Escuela de Artes de Úbeda and a city museum were established in 1943 .
