Casajús or winery Casajús ( Spanish Bodegas Casajús ) is one of the most famous Spanish wineries on an international level. The winery is located in the town of Quintana del Pidio ( Province of Burgos , Spain), in the wine-growing region with a protected designation of origin ( Denominación de origen ) Ribera del Duero . Over several generations, the Calvo and Casajús families developed their own house wine, until in 1993 José Alberto Calvo Casajús founded the winery.

The winery achieved international recognition thanks to excellent ratings by the American wine magazine Robert Parkers , The Wine Advocate , after assessing the wines Casajús Antiguos Viñedos, Vendimia Seleccionada and in particular their signature wine NIC.

The 1920s

The grandparents of José Alberto and his wife Leonor first planted vines in 1920 in Quintana del Pidio , in the heart of Ribera del Duero . For generations, the Calvo and Casajús families have grown their own wine in traditional wine cellars.

The 1960s

In 1963 the local wine cooperative "Los Olmos" was founded in Quintana del Pidio, in which the families of José Alberto and his wife Leonor were actively involved as founding members until the early 1990s.

The 1990s and 2000s

In 1993, José Alberto left the local cooperative and founded his own winery in Quintana del Pidio: "Bodegas JA Calvo Casajús", which was compatible with his actual work as a baker. In 2004 he started producing his signature wine NIC, an acronym for the names of his children Nicolás and Catalina. In the middle of the same decade, the winery began to gain international attention through positive reviews in Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate .

The 2010s

In 2013 the winery was awarded the highest score of the Ribera del Duero by the British critic Neal Martin of the American wine magazine Robert Parkers , The Wine Advocate . The 2009 NIC wine received 97 points and the Casajús Vinedos Antiguos wine received 95 points, which has attracted international media attention since then.
