Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy with white wool, greenish with a slightly reddish tinge. The blisteringly rough young leaves are only slightly hairy.
  • The small leaves are whole or three-lobed and then only slightly curved (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is closed in a V-shape. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium-wide compared to other grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough.
  • The cone-shaped grape is medium in size and sometimes shouldered. The oval berries are medium-sized and green-yellow in color. The berries have a thick skin and are neutral in taste.

The slow growing variety is susceptible to powdery mildew and downy mildew . Cascal is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
