Casper de Vries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Casper de Vries (born June 1, 1964 in Pretoria ) is a South African comedian and actor .

Casper de Vries studied theater studies at Stellenbosch University and gave his first one-man shows during this time. In the 1990s he performed with a band (he worked closely with musician and producer Andrew Roos from 1992 to 1997) and was also in the films Kwagga Strikes Back (1990), Sweet n 'Short (1991) and Soweto Green (1995). In the following years, however, de Vries became one of the most famous Afrikaans-speaking comedians in his homeland, mainly through his satirical one-man shows . On his nationwide tours he performed programs in which he poked up the history of the Boers , including for example Jan van Riebeeck , the immigrant Huguenots , the big trek , the National Party and the prime ministers they provided. Despite (or perhaps because of) the often satirical focus on Boer history, the audience consists mainly of this ethnic group, but this limitation did not prevent it from becoming a permanent national player in the entertainment sector. De Vries has also performed in London , where a large number of Afrikaans-speaking South Africans live.

A number of CDs and DVDs have been released in South Africa, the latter being recordings of his shows that de Vries has given since 1997.
