Casshern Sins ( Jap. キャシャーン Sins, Kyashan Sins , dt "Cassherns sins.") Is an anime - television series made by the studio Madhouse was produced in 2008 and shown on 1 October 2008 on Japanese television. It is a remake of the series Shinzō Ningen Casshern , created in 1973 in the studio of Tatsunoko Productions , which was also adapted in 2004 by the real film Casshern .

scenario

In the fictional world of anime, robots long used by humans rose to consciousness and took control under the leadership of their leader known as the Braiking Boss. When a mysterious girl named Luna is born one day, the braiking boss is so scared that he sends his three strongest cyborgs Casshern, Dio and Leda to kill Luna. After Luna dies at the hands of Casshern, Luna becomes immortal while the world is in extreme decline. The materials of the robots and machines rust and disintegrate so quickly that the entire ecosystem of the planet collapses. After many years of this unstoppable process, most of the robots have fallen into disrepair and used the parts of the disintegrated to extend their own lives, which often ends in cannibalistic battles. Hitherto suppressed humanity, however, also suffers from the consequences and, due to the strong changes in the world, is only rarely able to reproduce and is also close to extinction.

action

With no memory of his past, Casshern wakes up in this dying world and goes in search of his own past and the meaning of his life. Constantly haunted by the rumor spread among robots that his death could stop the progress of decline, he has to keep fighting off their attacks. In doing so he often loses his temper and attacks every living being in a state of frenzy. Slowly he finds out more and more about the feelings of the people and robots who blame him for the end of the world and who often fear and hate him for it.

After one of these attacks on him, he meets the robot child Ringo and his guardian Ōji. Ringo inspires him with his unprejudiced way of searching for the meaning of his existence. At an early age, he meets a family of robots, many of which are dying. In the midst of this group he finds the robot dog Friender who doesn't seem to have any traces of this decay. After the death of all members of the family, Friender only reluctantly, but later loyally, joins his new master. At the same time, Lyuze, the sister of one of the first victims and protector of Luna, appears again and again. This originally had the goal of killing Casshern, but finally has to realize that it is not possible to kill him, because he regenerates himself again and again under pain.

Unable to believe that Luna and with it the hope of this world died, he goes in search of the girl who, according to rumors, is still supposed to live. Together with Ringo, Friender, Lyuze and Ōji, he goes through various smaller adventures that advance the plot in parallel. Ultimately, they manage to find the living Luna. However, the dream of eternal life is increasingly turning out to be a nightmare. Luna, whose blood brought death, that after the first attempted murder by Casshern, mixed with his blood, that promised immortality, is now immortal herself and no longer brings death. It promises eternal life, which in the passing world becomes a torment for the mind. So the companions of Casshern reject the healing by Luna and start a life of their own apart, with the certainty that sooner or later death will overtake them.

After Ōji died and Lyuze also died sadly in the arms of Casshern, but still happy, Casshern went to Luna again to put an end to the decline. Braiking Boss stands in his way, which in the end is no longer a hurdle for him. Rather, the former leader regrets his striving for perfection and eternal life and the attempted murder of Luna, who kept the balance in the world. Standing in front of Luna, Casshern ultimately refuses to kill her, but gives her the hint that she may continue to give those seeking help eternal life as long as they remind them of death and the value of life. If it doesn't, he would come back and kill anyone who can't remember. So he disappears and has never been seen by Ringo since. The anime ends with a few scenes that show the now grown-up Ringo together with Friender and who describes herself in a monologue as probably the first person to appreciate death.

Conception

The plot is told in the form of smaller stories that focus on the lives of individual survivors, but also span the arc for a continuous story. Various topics such as terrorism , fascism , redemption myths and peaceful coexistence are dealt with, on which the individual smaller stories focus.

Again and again there are fighting scenes in which Casshern prevails against a multitude of adversaries and despite his abilities and his own immortality is not able to protect the people he has loved.
