Cassian Lohest

Cassian Jean Pascal Marie Joseph Lohest (Lhoest) (born January 2, 1894 in Liège ; † January 7, 1951 ibid) was a Belgian politician of the Catholic Party and the Parti social chrétien (PSC) .

biography

After attending school, he studied law . During the First World War he volunteered for military service in the Belgian armed forces in 1914 and was promoted to sub-lieutenant at the end of the war in 1918 . He then continued his studies and was after his promotion to Doctor of Law and an internship at the famous lawyers Paul Tschoffen 1920 as a lawyer at the Court of Appeal of Liege active.

In addition, he began a political career in 1930 when he was elected a member of the Liege City Council . Thereafter, between 1936 and 1939 was a member of the Senate of Liège Province . He was also president of La Ligue des Travailleurs chrétiens and a journalist at La Gazette de Liège . During the Second World War he was a defense lawyer for arrested Belgians before German courts-martial .

After the end of the Second World War, he was elected as a member of the Senate to represent the Arrondissement of Liège and was a member of it until his death in 1951.

In 1950 he succeeded Paul Struye , who was elected President of the Senate, and became a member of the National Executive Committee of the Christelijke Volkspartij (CVP) - Center Démocrate Humaniste | Parti social chrétien (PSC). Shortly afterwards, on December 24, 1950, he was honored with the honorary title of Minister of State for his political services .
