The region is located on the northeast coast of the state about 1,320 km north of the capital Brisbane and 75 km south of Cairns .
The largest town and administrative seat of the LGA is Innisfail with around 8300 inhabitants. Today's Cassowary Coast Region was created in 2008 from the two Shires Cardwell and Johnstone.
administration
The Cassowary Coast Regional Council has seven members. Six councilors are elected by the residents of the six divisions (constituencies). The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the region.
