Alarcón Castle

The Castillo de Alarcón is a castle in Alarcón , a municipality in the Spanish province of Cuenca in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha , which was built between the 12th and 15th centuries . The castle is located at a bend in the Júcar on a mountain ledge. It has been a protected architectural monument since 1992 .

history

The castle was originally built in the 8th century as a fortress of the Moors . In the 12th century it was conquered by Alfonso VIII , King of Castile , at the Reconquista . In the following centuries it was the scene of many armed conflicts. The famous poet Juan Manuel lived in the castle for some time.

Todays use

Since the 1960s, is located in the castle a Parador , a four-star - hotel with a restaurant .
