Reidar T. Larsen

Reidar Toralf Larsen (born October 8, 1923 in Lillehammer ; † February 16, 2012 ibid) was a Norwegian journalist , from 1965 to 1975 chairman of the Communist Party (NKP) and board member of Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV).

Life

education

After attending school, Larsen worked as a factory worker in Lillehammer between 1941 and 1945 and also attended a commercial high school between 1943 and 1946. He was also a journalist for the daily newspaper Dagningen from 1945 to 1946 and then began studying at the Volkshochschule ( Folkehøgskole ) in Sørmarka .

NKP

After the end of the Second World War he began his political commitment and was a member of the Lillehammer City Council from 1945 to 1947 . From 1946 to 1948 he was also an editor at Unge Viljer and Avantgarden , the newspapers of the Communist Party's youth association ( Norges Kommunistiske Ungdomsforbunds ). After Peder Furubotn was dismissed, he became chairman of the NKU in 1949 and held this position until 1953 when he became the editorial secretary of Friheten , the NKP's party newspaper . Between 1959 and 1965 he was an editor at Friheten .

In 1965 Larsen succeeded Emil Løvlien as chairman of the NKP and held this position for ten years until 1975. In the early 1970s he was one of the initiators of the Sosialistisk Valgforbund , one of the NKP, Sosialistisk Folkeparti (SF) and Demokratiske Sosialister (AIK) Electoral alliance for the vote on Norway's accession to the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1972 and the parliamentary elections in Norway in 1973 .

In the election of September 10, 1973, the electoral alliance achieved 11.2 percent of the vote and thus won 16 of the 155 seats in Storting , in which Larsen represented the constituency of Hedmark until 1977 . During his membership in Parliament he was a member of the Committee on Industry, the Electoral Committee and a deputy member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Sosialistisk Venstreparti

In 1975 Larsen resigned as chairman of the NKP and shortly thereafter became a member of the Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV), of which he was a member of the main board between 1975 and 1982. Most recently, as the successor to Berge Furre , Larsen was also chairman of the parliamentary group of the Sosialistisk Valgforbund in Storting between 1976 and 1977 . In 1999 he left the SV after it had supported NATO's military operation in the former Yugoslavia .

Later years

After leaving the Storting, Larsen was press spokesman for the consumer protection commissioner between 1978 and 1987 and then head of the consumer protection office in Østfold until 1991 . In addition, he was a board member of the nature conservation organization Naturvern in Østfold between 1989 and 1991 and chairman of the local association of EU opponents in Østfold from 1990 to 1994 .
