history
The oldest part of the castle is the residential tower (torre del homenaje). In the 15th century the inner fortification ring and parts of the outer ring wall were built. The towers were rebuilt in the 16th century.
The castle was temporarily inhabited by Charles II and Philip V. The castle inspired the author of Spanish Romanticism Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer to write his stories.
