The Castillo de Almenar in Almenar de Soria , a Spanish municipality in the Soria province of the autonomous community of Castile and León , was originally built in the 10th century. The castle , on an elongated ridge, has been a protected architectural monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ) since 1949 .

history

The oldest part of the castle is the residential tower (torre del homenaje). In the 15th century the inner fortification ring and parts of the outer ring wall were built. The towers were rebuilt in the 16th century.

The castle was temporarily inhabited by Charles II and Philip V. The castle inspired the author of Spanish Romanticism Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer to write his stories.
