history
The renaissance- style building with an irregular floor plan was designed by Francesco Florentini . It consists of two structures, which are connected to each other with two arches that bridge a moat. The smaller, lower building has loopholes for guns . The larger building, on a hexagonal floor plan, has several towers, of which the main tower ( Torre del homenaje ) dominates the castle. All walls and towers are crowned with battlements arranged in pairs .
The castle patio was sold to George Blumenthal in 1913 , who donated it to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 1945 . The patio has been faithfully rebuilt there in the library.
