Castillo de la Iruela
The Castillo de la Iruela is a castle in La Iruela , a municipality in the Spanish province of Jaén in the autonomous region of Andalusia , which was built in the Middle Ages . The castle, which stands on a ridge, has been a protected architectural monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ) since 1985 .
History and description
The castle is of Arab origin and was the scene of armed conflicts several times during the Reconquista . In 1231 it was finally recaptured by the Christians.
Most of the main tower and two partially crenellated wall enclosures still exist today.
