from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Castle Inn is a former hotel in the Scottish village of Greenlaw in the Council Area Scottish Borders . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The former hotel was probably built in the early 19th century. It thus falls within the construction period of the opposite town hall , with which it shares stylistic features. The Castle Inn probably once housed judges and lawyers who temporarily worked in the City Hall's judicial wing.

description

The Castle Inn is located on High Street ( A697 ) in the center of Greenlaw. It is part of the Greenlaws Conservation Area and is one of the few buildings set back from the street. The two-story building is designed in a classical style. The five-axis wide, north-facing front is structured with slightly protruding corner projections in scheme 1–3–1. Flat pilasters flank the central entrance portal. This closes with a triangular gable and is accessible via a front staircase. The facades close with a simple, all-round cornice . The roof is covered with slate. Remisen and stables are to the side and behind the building.
