Castleton Knight

Castleton Knight (born August 9, 1894 in Bromley , Kent , † April 3, 1970 in Battle , East Sussex ) was a British film producer and director .

Career

Knight's film career began in 1925 as a film producer on the short film Memories . He made his directorial debut in 1927 with the short film Prelude , for which he wrote the screenplay and was also seen in front of the camera. In the 1930s he worked as a director alongside short films as well as in feature films, before working as a film producer in documentaries about the British Crown in the 1940s. He was in charge of the documentary films about the wedding , coronation and 6-month trip around the world of Elizabeth II as well as a documentary about the integration of New Zealand into Commonwealth Realm .

For Knight's participation in the documentary A Queen Is Crowned , he received an Oscar nomination in the category " Best Documentary " at the 1954 Academy Awards . In 1958 he retired.
