history

Car sharing has been offered in Switzerland since 1948. In 2014, Catch a Car was founded as a subsidiary of the car sharing provider Mobility Genossenschaft in Basel with 100 VW up! launched. Catch a Car was the first Swiss car sharing offer without fixed stations. Allianz and AMAG are also involved as investors . The strategic partners include SBB and EnergieSchweiz . The number of 100 vehicles stationed in Basel was increased to 120 in 2015. The two-year pilot phase, which ended at the beginning of 2016, was scientifically supported by ETH Zurich . ETH Zurich analyzed the effects of the offer on the mobility behavior of individual members. In 2018, the fleet in Basel was increased by 30 to 150 vehicles, including electric cars for the first time .

Since November 2016, Catch a Car has also been stationed in Geneva with 100 vehicles powered by CO 2 -neutral natural gas. Station-independent car sharing could counteract this scarcity, as the existing vehicles are used more efficiently.

At the beginning of 2019, Mobility announced that it would take over 100% of the shares in Catch a Car AG and integrate the service into Mobility. The offer has been available under the title “Mobility Go” and offered in the Mobility app since July 2019. The Catch a Car brand was discontinued.

In March 2019, Mobility announced that it would reduce its expensive electric car fleet from 30 to 10 vehicles.
