The tower of the Catharinakerk

The Catharinakerk ( German  Katharinenkirche ) is an Evangelical Reformed parish church in Goedereede on the Goeree-Overflakkee peninsula in the Dutch province of South Holland . The medieval parts of the church are works of brick Gothic . The tower with its work stone decoration and its tuff stone bands can be assigned to the Kempic Gothic style.

history

Goedereede was parish off as an independent parish in 1450 from Ouddorp . Before the Catharinakerk was built, there was a chapel with an unknown patronage elsewhere , which fell victim to the city fire of 1482.

The new parish church was built in 1453 as a single-nave building with a 5/8 choir closure. In 1467 the construction of the massive west tower began. A north aisle was added to the nave in 1479, with a sacristy or possibly a side chapel attached to the east at the level of the choir. The tower was completed in 1512.

Around 1705 the nave of the church collapsed due to disrepair. In 1706 it was abandoned with parts of the choir that had also been affected. In 1708 a new church was built, including the remains of the choir and the Gothic sacristy, as a simple hall church on the foundation walls of the choir. The nave was not rebuilt, so that today there is a large gap between the tower and the hall church.

In 1823 the spire was converted into a lighthouse . The tower performed this function until a new lighthouse was built in Ouddorp in 1912.

The Reformed Church Congregation belongs to the United Protestant Church in the Netherlands, which was created in 2004 .

organ

The organ was built in 1929 by the organ building company J. de Koff & Zoon (Utrecht) in the existing organ case from 1861, and has been expanded several times over the years. The Kegelladen instrument today has 12 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The actions are pneumatic.
