Catherine Amy Dawson Scott

Catherine Amy Dawson Scott (born August 1865 in Dulwich (London) , † November 4, 1934 ) was an English writer . She was one of the founders of PEN in London .

Life

Scott was the daughter of a brick factory owner and was given the same name as her mother. She worked as a secretary from the age of 18 and later turned to writing. The first publication was Charades for home acting (1888). She married Horatio Francis N. Scott in 1896 and took his family name. In 1902 the family moved to West Cowes on the Isle of Wight .

Scott was the founder of the To Morrow Club authors' association , a forerunner of the PEN Club. She thought of a club that was common among friends at the time. The experiment of encountering strangers should emerge from the expansion of the horizon. Your novels, stories and essays tell of it. The then 56-year-old invited to a dinner on October 5, 1921 . 41 authors accepted the invitation, including George Bernhard Shaw and John Galsworthy , who had always advocated international understanding and peace.
