Catherine Bamugemereire

Catherine Bamugemereire, (born 1970 in Bubulo , Mbale District ) is a Ugandan judge who was appointed to the Uganda Court of Appeal in 2015 , which is also Uganda's constitutional court .

life and career

Catherine Bamugemereire received her Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University in 1992 . In 2003, she received her Master of Laws in Comparative and International Law from Southern Methodist University , in Dallas, Texas. Prior to her studies in the US, she was first in the office of the prosecutor's office for public law enforcement and as magistrate working in Uganda. In 2001 she briefly took on a position as legal advisor for Shell Mexico LPG . After obtaining her Masters, she moved to the UK , where she taught at the University of Surrey for seven years . In 2010 she returned to Uganda and was appointed to the High Court as a judge . During this time she works in the field of family law and anti-corruption . In the latter, she is now considered an expert, she spoke on this subject at the World Bank, among others . On her appeal to the Court of Appeal, she was the youngest of the 14 female judges in that court.

Catherine Bamugemereire has headed the Land Distribution Commission since 2017. In this context, she was the target of allegations of unlawful behavior as well as threats and assaults.
