Pietro Caucchioli

Pietro Caucchioli (born August 28, 1975 in Bovolone , Italy ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Athletic career

Caucchioli has been a professional since 1999. He took part in his first race for the Amica Chips team, which he left after a year. From 2001 to 2004 he drove for the Alessio team and competed in the Tour de France for the first time . During this time he achieved his greatest successes with two stage wins at the Giro d'Italia in 2001 and third place overall in 2002 . In 2005 he moved to Crédit Agricole , for which he started his second Tour de France .

doping

On June 17, 2009 the UCI announced that doping proceedings had been initiated against Pietro Caucchioli and four other drivers due to abnormalities in their blood profiles. The irregularities could be identified on the basis of the biological passport introduced in 2008 .

One day later, on June 18, 2009, Caucchioli was suspended from his Lampre team . In June 2010 he was banned from the National Olympic Committee of Italy (CONI) for doping for two years. The suspension was upheld by the CAS International Court of Justice in March 2011 .
