Caveman (acting)

Caveman is the German title of the Broadway monodrama Defending the Caveman by Rob Becker . The play is about the misunderstandings between men and women. Over 8 million people worldwide have already seen this play in the theater; the performances took place in more than 15 languages ​​and in over 30 countries.

Caveman in the USA

In 1991 the piece was performed in full for the first time. Becker, who played the piece himself until 2003, worked on it from 1988 to 1991. Even before the premiere, he used various ideas and excerpts for appearances in a different context.

Later u. a. actors Chris Sullivan and Kevin Burke played solo roles; they were initially trained by Rob Becker. There are currently dozens of actors playing the role around the globe.

The play has been performed continuously on Broadway since 1995. It is the longest performing solo piece in Broadway history.

Caveman in Germany and Switzerland

Since 2000 the play has been performed in a translation by Kristian Bader and staged by Esther Schweins in Germany. It has already been seen in over 70 German cities and in December 2010 at the Arosa Humor Festival in Switzerland. The first caveman actor in Germany was Kristian Bader. B. Karsten Kaie , Martin Luding , Holger Dexne , Felix Theissen , Raúl Gonzalez , Ingolf Lück , Christoph Schobesberger , Milton Welsh , Karl Bruchhäuser (actors) , Volker Meyer-Dabisch , Cyrill Berndt and Guido Fischer . In Austria , Adi Hirschal embodies the caveman. With “Deaf Caveman” Marco Lipski brought an adaptation in German sign language onto the stage.

Under the title “Caveman. The book: You collect, I hunt! ”, The play was translated into German by the author Daniel Wiechmann in 2008 as an extended reading version.
