Cayetano Luis Martínez de Irujo y Fitz-James Stuart, 4th Duke of Arjona, 13th Count of Salvatierra (born April 4, 1963 in Madrid ) is a Spanish show jumper.

Career

Martínez de Irujo was born in 1963 as the youngest son of Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart , Duchess of Alba and Berwick, and Luis Martínez de Irujo. He started riding at the age of five. As a junior he rode the first Nations Cup in this age group.

After completing his school career at the British Institute in Madrid, he focused entirely on equestrian sports. At the age of 19 he moved to Hans Günter Winkler's facility for three months . At the end of the 1980s he left Spain again due to the outbreak of African horse sickness and moved to the Netherlands for four years. After two further stops in France and Great Britain, he moved back to Spain in 2001. However, he regularly visits Ludger Beerbaum in Germany for training .

From 1999 to 2007 Martínez de Irujo was President of the International Jumping Rider Club (IJRC), representing the interests of international show jumping riders. After Rodrigo Pessoa held this office for four years, Martínez de Irujo was re-elected President in September 2011. From 2013 to 2017 he was Vice President of the IJRC under the new President Christina Liebherr .

In 2006 he played the role of Dukes of Wellington in the film Goya's Ghosts .

successes

Probably the most important success of his career Martínez de Irujo achieved in 1992 when he achieved fourth place with the Spanish team at the Olympic Games held in Spain . In addition, he took part in three European championships, four world championships and several Nations Cups. In 2006 Martínez de Irujo was also the Spanish champion of show jumping with Kesberoy St. Aubert .

    • 1986, Aachen: with Kaoua 12th place with the team and 36th place in the individual ranking
    • 1990, Stockholm : with Elegast 26th place in the individual evaluation
    • 1994, The Hague : with Palestro 12th place with the team and 60th place in the individual ranking
    • 1998, Rome : with Golan 15th place with the team and 79th place in the individual ranking
  • European Championships :
    • 1989, Rotterdam: 24th place in the individual evaluation with Buenos Aires
    • 1991, La Baule: 6th place with the team and 24th place in the individual ranking with Elegast
    • 2003, Donaueschingen: 13th place with the team and 17th place in the individual ranking with Delon VA

Private

Cayetano Martinez de Irujo bears the title of Count (Conde) of Salvatierra which his mother has ceded to him. The Duchess of Alba also ceded the title of Duke of Arjona to him in 2013. Martinez de Irujo married in 2005 and has two children.
