Katrien Caymax
Katrien Caymax (born March 17, 1951 in Meeuwen-Gruitrode ; † September 14, 2016 ) was a Belgian graphic artist and painter.
Katrien Caymax studied graphics at the Hasselt Art School in Belgium. Her first etchings were very strictly black and white. At the University of Belgrade she learned the basic technique of color graphics, which she later developed. This then also led her to painting.
Caymax was consciously looking for new technical solutions and in the eighties developed a new type of manufacturing process for color graphics. Her colorful pictures with great painterly charisma immediately received general recognition. Today she has completely left the tried and tested production techniques behind and uses the computer to create her graphics. As a painter, she tried all the techniques, but in the end she limited herself to the gouache technique.
The flowing lines and the louder palette are typical of their style of expression. Katrien Caymax strived for formal clarity, which gives the colors a very strong effect. Her expression is two-dimensional and her figures are a little deformed. The lines and areas are highlighted.
Her oeuvre is thoroughly figurative and most of her works have the female figure as a motif. Her typical ironic approach and supposedly naive drawing hide a deeper meaning.
Katrien Caymax's oeuvre has been exhibited in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, England, Germany, Spain, Poland, Morocco, Switzerland and the United States.
She passed away at the age of 65.
