Cecil Quentin, who sailed for the Royal Portsmouth Corinthian Yacht Club , took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris . With his yacht Cicely he started the regatta in the boat class over 20 tons , which consisted of four boats and was sailed over 40 nautical miles in just one race off Le Havre . The Cicely crossed the finish line as the second boat, but after adjusting the times, which was made due to the different weights of the participating boats, he was placed in first place in the overall classification, making him Olympic champion .

Quentin grew up in Ireland for a few years before the family moved to Gloucestershire around 1860 . He later became the managing director of a company and was a good friend of Cecil Rhodes .
