Celestino Schiaparelli

Celestino Schiaparelli (born May 14, 1841 in Savigliano , † 1919 in Rome ), younger brother of the astronomer Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli and father of the stylist Elsa Schiaparelli , was an Italian Arabist and student of Michele Amari . From 1873 to 1874 he was Professor of Arabic Studies at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Florence , then at the University of Rome from 1875 to 1916, and from 1885 to 1903 first librarian at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei . He devoted his studies in particular to the relationship between the Islamic world and Italian states of the Middle Ages. Like his brother, he was also a member of the Accademia delle Scienze di Torino .
