Celio Calcagnini
Celio Calcagnini (also known as Caelius Calcagninus ; born September 17, 1479 in Ferrara ; † April 24, 1541 ibid) was an Italian humanist and scholar from Ferrara. He researched and taught at the university there . Calcagnini was one of the most famous Italian intellectuals of his time.
Life
Calcagnini gained experience as a soldier and diplomat. He worked in the office of Ippolito I. d'Este and was consulted by Richard Croke on Henry VIII's divorce . He had a great influence on the work of François Rabelais . Giambattista Giraldi and Clément Marot were students of his. As an astronomer he researched the earth's rotation and followed the works of Nicolaus Copernicus , with whom he was friends. At the funeral of Ercole Strozzi , Calcagnini gave the farewell speech.
Calcagnini's best-known work is Opera aliquot from 1544. Leonardi died in his hometown at the age of 61.
