The Cella Sankt Benedikt was created after a request from the Bishop of Hildesheim Josef Homeyer in 1984 to the Königsmünster Abbey to re-establish a monastery in his diocese . On October 18, 1986, the Abbot Stephan Schröer from Königsmünster, during a solemn pontifical office in Hildesheim Cathedral, declared to the bishop the intention of the convent to establish such a foundation in Hanover. The task of the brothers should be to develop contemporary forms of Benedictine life in the context of a secular city . On July 11, 1988 six brothers were sent to Hanover, including brother Karl-Leo Heller. Today brother Nikolaus Nonn, brother Karl-Leo Heller and brother David Damberg live in the Cella Sankt Benedikt. Since 1997 the Cella Sankt Benedikt has been the carrier of the Cella Practice for Breathing and Voice, a registered speech therapy practice. In addition, the brothers are particularly active in the field of spiritual accompaniment .

Monastery church

From 2010 to 2011 a church consecrated on February 12, 2011 was built in the monastery building. The architects Gido Hülsmann and Dirk Boländer, as key designers, created a room of great clarity. On the right side, the room is delimited from the street by a translucent alabaster wall and from the apse the room is concentrated and collected by a cross that was created by P. Abraham Fischer and designed together with the architects.
