Cemal Ener
Mehmet Cemal Ener (* 1959 in Adana , Turkey ) is a Turkish editor and literary translator into Turkish.
Live and act
Ener attended the Austrian St. Georgs College in Istanbul , Turkey from 1970 to 1978 . He then studied philosophy and journalism in Vienna until 1984 . In 1986 he returned to Istanbul and worked as a tour guide from 1987 to 1993 . Since 1991 he has been working as a freelance translator; his focus is on the translation of literary and philosophical works from German into Turkish. He is currently working as an editor and translator mainly for the Turkish publishing house Kanat Kitap in Istanbul.
Ener has translated important works of world literature into Turkish , including book publications by Leo Perutz , Bernhard Schlink , Peter Handke and Daniel Kehlmann ; by Walter Benjamin , Gerhard Roth and Franz Kafka ; as well as by Samuel Beckett , Michel Foucault and Karl Kraus . He is currently working on a Turkish edition of Robert Walser's works . Ener also translates Turkish literature into German; In 2007 he was supported by the S. Fischer Foundation with a work stay at the Literary Colloquium in Berlin .
Ener lives and works in Istanbul.
