Centaurea pumilio is a perennial rosette hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 3 to 5, rarely up to 20 centimeters. The leaves are gray cobweby and lyre-shaped. They have more than 6 lateral leaflets. The end spine of the appendages of the bracts has a length of 5 to 9 millimeters. The flowers are purple. The pappus is whitish. Its outer hairs are coarse, the innermost row consists of linear-lanceolate, papillary scales.

The flowering period extends from March to August.

Occurrence

Centaurea pumilio occurs in the eastern Mediterranean region, in Italy, Libya, Egypt, Greece, Crete and Israel. The species grows on sandy coasts (by the sea).
