The Centramoebida are amoeboid single-cell organisms from the Amoebozoa group . Some species are pathogens in humans as in some animals.
features
The unicellular organisms have a flattened body shape. They have mobile pseudopods (so-called sub- pseudopodia ) that are occasionally forked at the base and gradually taper to a fine point. The Uroid is non-stick. The cytoplasmic MTOC is trilobed.
In culture, one of the species appears as a branched, flat film lacking subpseudopodia. At least one species forms sporocarp and is protosteloid, so it resembles members of the genus Protostelium .
species
The following genera are classified in the Centramoebida taxon :
- Acanthamoeba (Synonym Comandonia Pernin & Pussard 1979)
- Balamuthia
- Protacanthamoeba
An as yet undescribed protosteloid species (LHI05) is listed as incertae sedis within the Centramoebida as a sister of the Protacanthamoeba . Two species that have so far been placed in the genus Protostelium , namely Protostelium arachisporum and Protostelium pyriformis , may also be placed in the Centramoebida.
Medical importance
Certain species are opportunists and can cause diseases such as acanthamoebiasis , corneal inflammation or granulomatous amoebic encephalitis in animals and humans.
The German Society for Protozoology has the genus Acanthamoeba to protozoa of the year named 2012th
