Center Hospitalier Universitaire du Point-G (short: CHU Point-G ) is the only large hospital in the Republic of Mali . It is located in the capital Bamako .

history

Point-G was built as a military hospital by French troops between 1906 and 1913 . The French colonizers named it Point-G after the district of the same name in the city of Bamako. Shortly before Mali's independence in 1960, the former military hospital was converted into a civilian hospital to provide basic services to the population and then expanded. It is located on a hill overlooking Bamako and today has a total area of ​​around 25 hectares.

Today it has a total capacity of 471 beds and 9 intensive care beds in the interdisciplinary intensive care unit . A total of 18 medical departments, 10 operating theaters for abdominal surgery , urology , gynecology and obstetrics as well as thoracic surgery are available (as of 2012).
