Cerium (III) hydroxide is an inorganic chemical compound of cerium from the group of hydroxides .
Extraction and presentation
Cerium (III) hydroxide can be obtained by reacting cerium (III) nitrate with ammonium hydroxide.
It can also be prepared by dissolving cerium (III) oxide in acids and reacting with sodium hydroxide .
It is also formed when cerium reacts with water.
properties
Cerium (III) hydroxide is a white jelly-like solid that can be colored yellow, brown or pink due to impurities. It is practically insoluble in water and turns purple when exposed to air. It has a crystal structure of the uranium (III) chloride type.
use
Cerium (III) hydroxide is used for the production of cerium, cerium salts and as an additive for reaction resins.
