Ceratiomyxa morchella is a slime mold from the group of Protosporangiida . It grows on dead wood in tropical and subtropical America.

features

The fruiting bodies typically resemble those of the Morchella mushroom genus . However, they are only up to three millimeters high and between 0.5 and 2.0 millimeters wide. They grow socially or are grown together. The spherical to almost cylindrical heads sit on a stem or directly on the ground. They are more or less wrinkled or twisted. The stem, if present, is cylindrical and colored white or hyaline . A thin, hyaline base ( hypothallus ) may be present at the base of the fruiting body .

The spores are ovate to ellipsoid, smooth and hyaline; in bulk they appear white. They measure 9–11 × 6–8 micrometers. The plasmodium is white.

distribution

The slime mold is common in the tropics and subtropics of America. He can be found in Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Suriname and Florida.
