Ceratiomyxa is a genus of slime molds that,together with its sister taxon, the Protosporangiidae , forms the group of Protosporangiida .
features
The species of the genus Ceratiomyxa form columnar, twig or morel-like fructifications that are on a common base ( hypothallus ). Unlike most slime molds, the spores are not located inside closed fruiting bodies ( sporocarpies ), but on the outside on thin stalks. The fructifications are therefore also referred to as sporophores. Quaduclear protoplasts form from the spores , from which eight haploid swarming cells are formed.
