Praecereus euchlorus is a species of plant in the genus Praecereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the plant color, beautifully colored or beautifully green.

description

Praecereus euchlorus initially grows slightly upright, is not very branched and later bent over and leaning against it, clinging to the splay . The slender shoots are up to 5 meters long. There are 4 to 14 low and sharp-edged ribs . The up to 20 thorns are weak, whitish, needle-like and often very unequal in length. The up to 4 central spines, which can also be missing, are up to 5 (rarely up to 7.5) centimeters long. The much shorter radial spines are 5 to 10 (rarely up to 15) millimeters in length.

The white to greenish white flowers are up to 8 centimeters long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with very no scales and otherwise bare. The fruits are elongated.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Praecereus euchlorus is distributed in the south and west of Brazil , in Paraguay , Trinidad , Venezuela , Colombia , Ecuador , Peru , Bolivia and in the northeast of Argentina . The first description as Cereus Euchlorus was published in 1898 by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber . Nigel Paul Taylor placed it in 1997 in the genus Praecereus . The following subspecies are distinguished:

Praecereus euchlorus subsp. diffuse
Praecereus euchlorus subsp. jaenensis
Praecereus euchlorus subsp. smithianus

The subspecies differ from each other in the number of ribs and thorns.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
