Cereus hankeanus is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Cereus hankeanus grows tree-shaped with several upright, cylindrical shoots . There are four to five sharp-edged, notched ribs that are up to 3 centimeters high. The round areoles on it are brown. The single, straight central spine is brownish yellow and has a length of up to 1.6 centimeters. The three to four strong, awl radial spines are yellowish to brown. They are 8 to 12 millimeters long.

The flowers are a little purple on the outside and white on the inside. They are up to 12 centimeters long and reach the same diameter. The cylindrical, greenish yellow fruits contain a red pulp .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cereus hankeanus is distributed in the Bolivian departments of Cochabamba , Chuquisaca , Santa Cruz and Tarija as well as the Argentine provinces of Jujuy , Salta and Catamarca at altitudes of 500 to 2500 meters. The first description was published in 1887 by Karl Moritz Schumann .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
