Cerrillos is a city in Uruguay .

geography

It is located in the west of the Canelones department in sector 3 . It is located a few kilometers south of Aguas Corrientes and Santa Lucía and southwest of the departmental capital Canelones . In the urban area are the sources of the Arroyo Durán and the Arroyo del Juncal , both tributaries of the Río Santa Lucía .

history

Cerrillos was founded on August 3, 1896. By legal decree (Ley 3.188) of July 5, 1907, this step was also officially carried out and it was classified as "Pueblo". On October 23, 1958, Law No. 12.581 was upgraded to the "Villa" category, before Cerrillos was finally declared a "Ciudad" on July 20, 1971.
