The Cerro de las Ánimas (German: Hill of Souls , formerly known as Mirador Nacional ) is the second highest point in Uruguay . The summit is at an altitude of 501 meters. It is located in the southwest of the Maldonado department in the city of Piriápolis and belongs to the range of hills of the Sierra de las Ánimas .
history
Until 1973, the Cerro de las Ánimas was the highest point in Uruguay. This year, however, the " Servicio Geográfico Militar " took measurements again and changed the height of the Cerro Catedral to the current height of 514 meters, making it officially the highest point in the country.
