Ceuaş (formerly Ciavaşu săsesc ; German  Grubendorf , Hungarian Csávás or Szászcsávás ) is a village in the Transylvania region in the Mureş County in Romania . It belongs to the municipality of Mica .

location

The place is located in a southern side valley of the Târnava Mică (Little Kokel) in the Zwischenkokel area, about 20 kilometers as the crow flies northeast of Mediaș (Mediasch) .

history

The village, first mentioned in a document in 1301, was a settlement of the Transylvanian Saxons on Kokelburg county floor . The residents of German descent left the place, which was owned by noble Hungarian landlords until 1848, as early as the 16th century.

Musical tradition

Today Szászcsávás is mostly inhabited by Hungarians and Hungarian Roma. They have a very strong musical tradition. The Hungarian church choir is well-known and continues to cultivate the musical influences of Protestant theologians who studied in Western Europe. In addition, the traditional Hungarian gypsy group Szászcsávás Band made the place internationally known. Every year in August, an international folk music and dance festival takes place in Szászcsávás.
