Nozet Castle

Château Nozet is a castle and winery in Pouilly-sur-Loire , which is particularly known for its Pouilly-Fumé .

history

In 1787, Comte Edmond Lafond , who came from a wealthy banking family, bought it from Madame Sophie , the illegitimate daughter of Louis XV. the largest winery in Pouilly-sur-Loire.

An anecdote has it that the white wines from this winery were among Napoleon's favorite wines. In 1937 they were given the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) designation of origin .

In 1972 a descendant of Comte Lafond, Baron Patrick de Ladoucette, took over the estate. As the first full-time and fully trained winemaker in his family, he was not only able to bring the wines of his house to world renown and to make the Pouilly-Fumés practically indispensable for every gourmet temple, but also to enrich the winery with other top products . In 1980 he acquired the Domaine Marc Brédif de Vouvray near Tours , in 1985 the Domaine Régnard in Chablis and in 1994 the La Poussie vineyard near Sancerre , where he also brought wine production up to date.

Thus, in addition to the Pouilly-Fumés, the estate has since then also produced great Chablis , Sancerres , Vouvrays and Chinons , some of which are considered to be among the best of their kind.

Castle and winery

The winery includes the magnificent Nozet Castle, which the Comte Lafond had built in the Renaissance style in the 19th century .

The castle is surrounded by what are probably the best vineyards in the region. More than 50,000 hectoliters of wine are produced annually on around 1000 hectares of vineyards . Due to the dense tillering with a permitted 6600 vines per hectare, the roots have to search deep in the earth for food. The measure of all things is the terroir , i.e. the interplay of climate, geology, topography and soil conditions. The soil here consists of clay, marl , limestone and flint, the flint . This is responsible for the special fragrance of the wines, which one likes to try to describe as smoky.

Pouilly-Fumé de Ladoucette

Some of the world's most sought-after Loire wines are produced on 165 hectares, such as the famous Baron de L. since 1972 , which Baron de Ladoucette is only vinified in top years . Not least with this wine, Ladoucette has become synonymous around the world for the finest white wines from the Loire. These are his true passions, he wants to get the most out of them in terms of fruit and grape variety expression. His oenologist Philippe Rossignol proved that Chablis of excellent quality can also be produced without barrique. His great wines are not characterized by a woody taste, but rather a wonderful balance of fruit, distinctive grape variety expression with the typical flint and elegance.

Domaine Marc Brédif

The Marc Brédif House, founded in 1893, is based in Rochecorbon , in the heart of Touraine and at the gates of Tours. The white wines of the Vouvray are dominated by the Chenin Blanc grape variety . In addition, the house also offers a fresh Muscadet Sèvre et Maine .

Domaine Régnard

In 1985, de Ladoucette bought this long-established Chablis house that had no successor. Today, in the possession of important Premier Cru and Grand Cru locations and the conviction that a good Chablis does not need an addition of woody taste or tannins to achieve better qualities, he only selects the best cuvées from the range.

Sancerre La Poussie

This 30 hectare Domaine La Poussie is considered the best location in Sancerre and is close to Bué . It was expanded in 1960 by Jean Cordier and acquired by Baron de Ladoucette in 1994.
