Chacornac is an impact crater on the northeastern front of the moon in the mountains of the Montes Taurus on the edge of the Mare Serenitatis , touching the edge of the larger crater Posidonius in the northwest . The crater rim is heavily eroded. Inside the crater there is a system of lunar grooves , the Rimae Chacornac .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the French astronomer Jean Chacornac .
