The province of Chahar ( Chinese  察哈爾  /  察哈尔 , Pinyin Cháhā'ěr , mongol. Цахар), also under the name Chaha'er , Chakhar or Qahar known (abbr. , Chá ) was a province of China in the years from 1928 to 1952, most of which was in what is now Inner Mongolia and also in Hebei . It was named after the Mongolian tribe of the Chahar . Its capital was Zhangjiakou , which was also the capital of the Japanese puppet state Mengjiang under the old name Kalgan 1936 / 37-1945 .
