The Chamberlain River is a river in the Kimberley region in the northeast of the Australian state of Western Australia .

geography

The river has its source east of Yulumbu and north of the eastern part of the King Leopold Ranges , then flows in a north-easterly direction along the Durack Ranges and flows into the Pentecost River in the north of these mountains at El Questro Station .

Origin of name

The river was named by surveyor Frederick Brockman in 1901. It is believed that it got its name after either the shipbuilder William Chamberlain or the politician Joseph Chamberlain .

Fish stocks

Barramundi ( Lates calcarifer ) can be found in the Chamberlain River .
