The Chance Rock (from English chance 'risk' ) is a sea-washed reef rock in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located in the center of Gerlache Street, not far from its connection with Orléans Street .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it that way in 1960 because the rock posed a threat to ships crossing the Gerlache Strait.
